There is a common misconception that pelvic health only applies to women - this couldn’t be further from the truth!

Many men present to The Pelvic Studio before and after prostate surgery. A common post-operative complication is urinary incontinence (up to 88%) and erectile dysfunction (up to 100%).

The good news is 94% of incontinent men naturally recover. The bad news is this recovery can be extremely slow and take up to 24 months. Incontinence and erectile dysfunction can have a huge impact on a man’s confidence and quality of life and can lead to social anxiety and depression.

Recent high-quality evidence shows that pelvic physiotherapy speeds up the recovery of both incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Physiotherapy may help men regain their continence within 3-6 months post-operatively. Research recommends that men present to a pelvic physiotherapist 30 days prior to their prostate surgery to commence pelvic floor exercises.

Your pelvic floor muscles play an integral role in bladder control and sexual function. By working on these muscles before AND after surgery, The Pelvic Studio can help to speed up your recovery and restore your function, improving your quality of life sooner.

Men commonly present with the following symptoms:

Urinary incontinence

Erectile dysfunction

Voiding dysfunction (difficulties emptying your bladder)

A delay to start the flow of urine

Weak stop/start urine stream

Incomplete bladder emptying

Increased bladder frequency and urgency

Pelvic pain
