There is a common misconception that pelvic health only applies to females - this couldn’t be further from the truth!

The pelvic floor is important for all genders! A common post-operative complication is urinary incontinence (up to 88%) and erectile dysfunction (up to 100%).

The good news is 94% of those with incontinence post op naturally recover. The bad news is this recovery can be extremely slow and take up to 24 months. Incontinence and erectile dysfunction can have a huge impact on confidence and quality of life and can lead to social anxiety and depression.

Recent high-quality evidence shows that pelvic physiotherapy speeds up the recovery of both incontinence and erectile dysfunction. Physiotherapy may help to regain continence within 3-6 months post-operatively. Research recommends that you should present to a pelvic physiotherapist 30 days prior to your prostate surgery to commence pelvic floor exercises.

Your pelvic floor muscles play an integral role in bladder control and sexual function. By working on these muscles before AND after surgery, The Pelvic Studio can help to speed up your recovery and restore your function, improving your quality of life sooner.

Common Symptoms:

Urinary incontinence

Erectile dysfunction

Voiding dysfunction (difficulties emptying your bladder)

A delay to start the flow of urine

Weak stop/start urine stream

Exercise-based rehabilitation is one of the most effective ways to support recovery both before and after prostate surgery. Pre-surgery, targeted exercise helps build strength, improve continence outcomes, and prepare the body for the demands of surgery. Post-surgery, guided rehab supports bladder control, pelvic floor recovery, and a safe return to everyday activities and exercise.

At The Pelvic Studio, our Men’s Health Classes are designed specifically to support you through this journey — combining pelvic health expertise with the power of community. Many of our participants have shared that they’ve even been in the same recovery ward as each other, and the classes provide a space not only to rebuild strength but also to share experiences, support one another, and know that you’re not alone.
